In 2015-16, world production of wheat is estimated 734.9 million Mt from 224.8 million ha planted area. China is one of the top wheat producing countries (about 130.0 million Mt per year).  

Biocentury has formed a JV company Focome specializing in wheat seed business. The major breeding objectives include high yield, good quality, resistance against diseases and insects, and tolerance to abiotic stresses (mineral, moisture, drought and heat tolerance). So far , several varieties have been approved by the government with impressive market share growth and future perspective.
